Chemical Engineer Job Outlook – The 2021 biennial wage survey was launched amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, after months of job losses and massive pay cuts, as businesses across the country struggle to stay afloat amid mandatory shutdowns and restrictions. However, the 2021 survey results show positive growth for the chemical engineering profession in the US. The median annual salary for 2021 survey participants was $138,500 – a nearly 10% increase from the 2019 median salary of $126,000.
For comparison, the salary survey for 2019 reported a 1.6% increase in average salary between 2017 and 2019 (Figure 1). Despite the global economic downturn, the chemical engineering profession continues its upward trend in salaries. Since 2002, salaries for chemical engineers have increased almost continuously.
